Igor Babailov painted his very first portrait at the age of four (4) and received his first lessons in art from his father, Valery Babailov, who was the student of renowned artist Aleksey Kholmogorov.
Child prodigy, Igor Babailov began his FORMAL classical art training at the age of nine (9) and in the span of sixteen years (1974-1990), he attained the highest levels of the academic art education and received his MFA/ Master of Fine Arts degree (official equivalent to Ph.D. in the U.S.) under the historic Russian Academy of Arts (est.1757).
Igor Babailov studied directly under some of the finest artists and teachers in art history, and through his formal academic art education within the studios of the Academy, he belongs to the Direct Academic Lineage of world-famous Masters of Portraiture, Ilya Repin and Valentin Serov.
Igor Babailov's fine art education (1974 -1990), rooted in the curriculum of the acclaimed Russian traditional school of art, especially contributed to his unparalleled skill in academic drawing (or drawing from life), which today is a fundamental challenge for many painters.

The academic lineage herein stands far beyond inspirational moments of occasional interactions with master-artists, i.e. attending their public portrait demonstrations, and/or inspirational stories of such, told by art-mentors, friends, or acquaintances.
This lineage represents unbroken consecutive lessons, passed on directly from Teacher to Student within an academic institution and during a sustained period of time of formal academic education that resulted in earning a terminal Fine Art degree.
